Optimizing the Method of Rosemary Essential Oils Extraction by Using Response Surface Methodology (RSM)-Characterization and Toxicological Assessment

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is a plant with needle-shaped leaves. It mainly found in Mediterranean regions (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia). essential oil (EO) has several therapeutic virtues that were widely studied. However, the use of this EO restricted due to its sensitivity oxidation. Nanoencapsulation based on polymers been developed as one promising techniques overcome limitation. In study, emphasis was optimizing extraction formulation food additive rosemary EO. fact, results showed depended parameters process, optimum heating temperature time determined using an experimental design methodology. The for chosen follows: 250 °C hydrodistillation 180 min. This optimization revealed maximum yield can be obtained. characterized by dominance 1,8-cineole, camphor, ?-pinene, borneol camphene well high antioxidant antibacterial capacities low acute toxicity. obtained stable powder used industrial applications.
